Each one of us wants to be happy, but we have different ways of going about it. There are those who don’t think about it and just do their best to get through life and survive, thinking that that is how they will be happy. And then there are those who believe that as long as they avoid negative things, then nothing will ever tarnish their every day and they can be as happy as they can be. But did you know that these two things do not lead to a happy life?
If you’re more like the first group, just grinding because it is what you should be doing is going to easily blindside you from everything else that is happening in your life. You’ll wake up in the morning one day, 65 years old and retired, and wonder where all the time went and what you did with it. Similarly, if you are more like the second group and you put off bad things because you don’t want negative vibes, you miss out on what could be if you do encounter a bad thing and you overcome.
You see, the only way to be happy is to have the courage to embrace the suck and deal with the crap that you need to do deal with, without going on robot mode or putting on rose-colored eyeglasses. You have got to be able to look life dead in the eye and say, “Okay, I know what I need to do and I’m gonna do it.” You may find that you won’t like most of it some days, but if you hunker down and submit to it and persist through it and rise up out of it, then you will have earned a magical life gift that will set you up better, give you a better perspective, help you appreciate things better, teach you to love yourself more, and be happy.
